septic vasculitis (gonococcemia, meningococemia)
Histologic Features
- A necrotic epidermis containing numerous neutrophils, eosinophils, and nuclear dusts
- Extensive edema of the papillary dermis producing a subepidermal blister
- A dense superficial and deep perivascular and periadnexal, mixed cell infiltrate containing numerous neutrophils. lymphocytes, and rare eosinophils
- Marked leukocytoclasis
- Extensive extravasation of erythrocytes
- Neutrophils, nuclear dust and lymphocytes between collagen bundles
- Prominent thrombi but little fibrin deposition
