Histologic Features
- A thin epidermis
- An inflammatory process involving the upper dermis alone
- Involvement of the entire dermis and subcutaneous fat
- Discrete round to oval tubercles consisting of epithelioid histiocytes and many multinucleated giant cells
- A sparse infiltration of lymphocytes incompletely encircling the tubercles
- Fibrin within tubercles
- Asteroid bodies (eosinophilic star-like) and Schaumann bodies (basophilic laminated) within histiocytes
