Histologic Features
- Scale-crust and ulcerations
- Epidermal hyperplasia with edema of the papillary dermis containing numerous erythrocytes
- Numerous neutrophils within the epidermis
- A dense, diffuse or nodular infiltrate in the dermis consisting of many atypical mononuclear cells with large oval nuclei and prominent nucleolus (some are multinucleated) in association with small lymphocytes, histiocytes, and varying numbers of neutrophils, eosinophils, and plasma cells
- An occasional Reed-Sternberg-like cells
- Neutrophils present in vessel lumina
- Scattered nuclear dust in the dermis
- Deep extension of the infiltrate into the subcutis
