pyoderma gangrenosum
Histologic Features
- Confluent necrosis of the epidermis with numerous neutrophils
- Ulceration of the surface
- Marked edema of the papillary dermis
- Extensive extravasation of erythrocytes
- A dense, diffuse infiltrate in the dermis consisting predominantly of neutrophils with an admixture of eosinophils, lymphocytes and histiocytes
- Destruction of adnexal structures with remnants of follicular epithelium present
- Deep extension of the inflammation into the panniculus
