Histologic Features
- A basket-weave cornified layer
- Slender elongated rete ridges
- Abundant melanin especially at the basal layer, but also in the epidermis and cornified layer
- A proliferation of typical solitary melanocytes at the dermo-epidermal junction
- Giant melanosomes not uncommonly found
- Melanophages within the papillary dermis
- Lamellar fibroplasia of the papillary dermis
