inadequately treated lepromatous leprosy
Histologic Features
- An occasional lymphocyte present in the epidermis
- A very sparse lymphohistiocytic perivascular infiltrate involving the superficial plexus and minimally the deep plexus
- A periadnexal infiltrate of inflammatory cells
- Foamy histiocytes at some foci
- A sparse infiltrate or lymphocyte around dermal nerves
- A moderate number of lepra bacilli demonstrated by the Fite stain.
