Histologic Features
- A hyperplastic but centrally ulcerated epidermis
- A dense, diffuse dermal infiltrate consisting of an admixture of histiocytes and plasma cells with a few lymphocytes
- Multiple foci of neutrophils and numerous ovoid Donovan bodies surrounded by vacuoles in the cytoplasm of histiocytes, best visualized with a Giemsa stain
