Histologic Features
- A large and slightly atypical melanocytic lesion characterized by
- A proliferation of atypical melanocytes as irregular nests and single cells at the DE junction
- Confluence of adjacent nests
- Concentric and lamellar fibroplasia of the papillary dermis
- A lymphocytic infiltrate with melanophages at the base
- The melanocytes are large and demonstrate abundant cytoplasm containing coarse melanin but mitoses are rare and pagetoid spread of the atypical melanocytes to the upper half of the epidermis is not seen
