combined Spitz nevus
Histologic Features
- A slightly asymmetrical dome-shaped lesion characterized by
- A proliferation of large melanocytes as solitary units and nests at the DE junction
- Nests and sheets of banal nevus cells in the dermis
- Solitary units and nests of large nevus cells with oval nuclei, prominent nucleoli, and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm within the dermis
- Unusual pleomorphism, atypia, and gigantism of many of the cells
- Occasional multinucleated giant cells
- Infrequent mitotic figures
- Lymphocytic infiltrate, especially around blood vessels
