Histologic Features
- Pseudocarcinomatous hyperplasia of the epidermis with intraepidermal abscesses
- A dense, diffuse dermal mixed-cell infiltrate consisting mostly of histiocytes, multinucleated histiocytes, eosinophils and lymphocytes
- Foci of neutrophilic abscesses
- Causative fungi appearing as conspicuous, brown, thick-walled, spherical spores 12-15 microns in clusters or chains within the inflammation ("copper pennies")
