atypical melanocytic hyperplasia
Histologic Features
- An asymmetrical proliferation of slightly large melanocytes, as single cells and nests at the DE junction in association with solar elastosis of the papillary dermis. Upper invasion of the epidermis usually present in lentigo maligna is not seen. Nesting of melanocytes at the tips of rete ridges as seen in a banal junctional nevus is not present. The lesion lacks the fibroplasia, melanophages and lymphocytes of junctional dysplastic nevus
