- A basket-weave cornified layer
- Ballooning and partial necrosis of upper epidermis
- A sprinkle of neutrophils in areas of necrosis
- A moderate degree of spongiosis and spongiotic vesiculation of the epidermis
- Edema of papillary dermis
- A superficial perivascular lymphohistiocytic infiltrate
